Bridging Financial Controlling, Engineering, and Sustainable Performance
Traditional controllers report financial performance ex-post.
Sustainability reporting measures emissions after the fact.
My focus is ex-ante financial control: embedding environmental risks, regulatory liabilities, and cost optimization directly into product design.
Brief Bio: I am a Professional Controller and ESG Manager with over a decade of experience across management engineering, financial controlling, and ESG performance modeling. Throughout my career, I have structured cost control methodologies, budgeting systems, and data-driven ESG reporting tools for manufacturing and engineering enterprises.
My passion lies at the intersection of Finance, Product Engineering, and Decarbonization—helping manufacturing companies transform environmental compliance from an operational tax into a strategic driver of integrated operating margins (Green OpEx).
The Problem I Saw in Industrial Practice
For years, traditional Design to Cost (DtC) focused purely on direct unit costs (raw materials, machining, assembly).
Meanwhile, sustainability teams operated in silos, producing Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) that measured physical emissions (kg CO2e) without showing direct, short-term impact on the Profit & Loss statement.
With the arrival of the European Green Deal—CBAM levies, EU ETS carbon pricing, and EPR directives—environmental variables became binding economic liabilities.
The Solution
I developed the Design to Green Cost (DtGC) framework to address this disconnect. DtGC extends traditional target costing by quantifying concrete Economic Environmental Exposure ex-ante, right at the Bill of Materials (BOM) level during early product design—where over 80% of lifecycle costs and environmental footprints are locked in.
Core Competencies & Expertise
- Financial & ESG Controlling: Budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, cost modeling, and integrated financial/ESG performance monitoring.
- Carbon Accounting & Climate Data: Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions analysis, CO₂e calculations, CBAM, EU ETS, and EPR regulatory cost imputation.
- ESG Reporting Frameworks: ESRS (CSRD), GRI Standards, and applied expertise in VSME frameworks.
- Data Analytics & BI Architecture: Designing Power BI dashboards, relational databases, and data collection tools to turn raw ESG metrics into actionable C-Level insights.
- Engineering & Product Design Background: Hands-on proficiency with mechanical CAD platforms (CATIA V5, Unigraphics NX) and manufacturing processes, enabling seamless collaboration with engineering teams.
My Approach: The Cross-Functional Translator
Implementing sustainable performance requires speaking multiple corporate languages fluently:
- With Executive Leadership (CFO / CEO): Translating technical decisions into P&L performance, risk mitigation, and margin protection.
- With Product Development & R&D: Translating financial parameters into concrete engineering trade-offs during BOM conceptualization.
- With ESG & Sustainability Teams: Filtering physical emission datasets to isolate business-relevant economic drivers.
- With Procurement & Supply Chain: Evaluating tier-1 supplier selections against embedded CBAM, freight ETS, and circular economy criteria.
Let’s Discuss How DtGC Can Protect Your Product Margins
Whether you are looking to integrate DtGC into your consulting practice or want to assess your manufacturing portfolio’s Green OpEx exposure, I am open to strategic dialogue.
